High Speed Transient [EMP] Protection
NexTek has nearly 30 Years of experience providing Coaxial Surge Protection for a large variety of applications.
Some of the very first coaxial surge suppressors that NexTek designed and delivered were for protection against High Speed Transient Events, also commonly known as EMP Events. The source of EMP type transient events can be related to nuclear detonations, solar flares, or intentional EMI.
High Speed Protection presents a set of unique challenges for any type of conductor, including high energy levels and high frequency content over a an extremely short transient event. For coaxial RF applications, these challenges are compounded by the fact that much of the unwanted Transient Energy is in the MHz and GHz range where many coaxial applications demand low-loss characteristics.
NexTek has experience with MIL-STD-188-125, MIL-STD 461, MIL-STD 464, RTCA DO-160, and many other similar or related High Speed Transient requirements. NexTek has long-standing relationships with test-houses who have full test capability to any common waveform or standard. While EMP generally refers to any source of overvoltage in Europe, the term EMP, NEMP and HEMP are generally all refer to the same phenomena in the US.
